Carbon stock monitoring & expansion through land acquisition.
Building on the results of Sango’s 2023 certified organic carbon inventory—which confirmed the sequestration of 8,495,054 tons of CO₂—we are now entering a new phase focused on the long-term protection, continuous monitoring, and strategic expansion of carbon stocks.
Ongoing Protection and Monitoring
With a solid scientific baseline in place, Sango is committed to maintaining the integrity of its carbon-rich ecosystems. Our team of ecologists will continue to monitor key indicators of ecosystem health, including annual assessments of herbaceous cover, woody biomass, and wildlife populations. These will be complemented by full ecological inventories every five years—mirroring the methodology of the 2023 carbon assessment and validated by independent third-party auditors. Supported by remote sensing technology and grounded in a robust MRV system, this continuous monitoring ensures reliable, evidence-based insights into carbon stock evolution over time.
Expanding Carbon Storage through Land Acquisition
To scale up its impact, Sango is actively pursuing the acquisition of adjacent land, aiming to secure an additional 40,000 hectares—bring the total managed area to ~100,000 hectares. This expansion could increase total carbon storage by an estimated 6.5 million tonnes of CO₂e, while also delivering co-benefits for biodiversity, soil health, and water regulation.
By protecting what has already been restored and scaling up through landscape-level restoration, Sango continues to position itself as a leading example of integrated climate and conservation action on the ground.
